From time to time, the more stylish among us will clean out their closet, visit the mall or go online to makeover their image. Whether it’s in your personal life or your business world, you might have to look your best to compete with everyone else. The credit card industry is one of the most competitive in the United States, and card issuers are constantly giving their cards makeovers to keep up with the market.

Sometimes these makeovers are largely cosmetic, while other times the card issuers will improve a business card benefits or rewards. If the improved card is considered to be the product, then existing cardholders will receive those benefits without having to do anything new. But if the new card is considered to be a different product, then cardholders can keep the old one, or request a “product change” to the new card. With a product change, you have to call and request it. But once granted, your card will retain the same account number, balance and payment information, but it will have all the terms and conditions of the new card. Furthermore, there won’t be any new credit check required.

The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express

Get rewarded for business as usual. Earn 2X points on everyday business purchases such as Learn More

This card received a makeover in May of 2017, and it replaces the Blue for Business credit card that Amex had offered for years. The old card featured one point per dollar spent on all purchases, with a 30% bonus on the points earned at the end of each account year. However, this new card offers you 2x Membership Reward points per dollar spent on everything, for the first $50,000 you spend each calendar year. American Express considers this card to be a new product, so existing Blue Business cardholders will need to contact American Express to request a product change in order to receive these new terms and benefits.

And while the old card by itself didn’t let you transfer your Membership Rewards points to airline miles, the new card does. This makes it one of the only cards with no annual fee that offers rewards that you can transfer to miles with multiple different frequent flyer programs. It also features an introductory APR of 0% on purchases for 15 months, with a 3% balance transfer fee.

This premium rewards card has been around for decades, and it was about time that it got a slight makeover. First, it now comes in a slick, metal card design, replacing its attractive, but plastic predecessor. Also, cardholders now receive a 50% points bonus on large business purchases of $5,000 or more. You can also use your Business Platinum card to redeem your points for 35% more value towards airline reservations made through American Express Travel. This is considered to be the same product as before, so existing Business Platinum cardholders are already enjoying these new features and benefits.

This card currently offers a great sign-up bonus. Earn up to 75,000 Membership Rewards® points. Earn 50,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $10,000 and an extra 25,000 points after you spend an additional $10,000 all on qualifying purchases within your first 3 months of Card Membership.

Unchanged is the ability to Get 5X Membership Rewards® points on flights and prepaid hotels on amextravel.com. Get 50% more Membership Rewards® points. That's 1.5 points per dollar, on each eligible purchase of $5,000 or more. You can get up to 1 million additional points per year. You also get 10 Gogo inflight internet passes annually and unlimited Wi-Fi at Boingo hotspots. Finally, you receive access to over 1,000 airport lounges that are part of the American Express Centurion, Delta SkyClub and Priority Pass Select networks.
