Nav's Verdict

Bottom Line This is a very good travel rewards card for award travel enthusiasts.

The American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Business card was a long-time favorite among cardholders who wanted to make the most of their hotel and travel expenses, but when Marriott acquired the Starwood Preferred Guest and Ritz Carlton brands, the future of the card was in question, In January of 2019, we finally received an answer — American Express would no longer offer the SPG Business card.

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card replaced the SPG Business card, and for some, particularly those who frequent Marriott, SPG, or Ritz Carlton properties, the new card may be a great addition to your wallet.

Card Review Details

Finding the best travel rewards business credit card depends on a variety of factors, including your preferred hotel chain, your travel habits, and the rewards structure.

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card may not be the same as the SPG business card, but it remains a great option for some business owners. With 29 brands and over 6,7000 hotels under the Marriot Bonvoy umbrella, this business rewards card can earn you big points when you stay at participating properties.  This includes luxury brands like St. Regis and the Ritz Carlton as well as other classic brands like Sheraton, Westin, and Courtyard.

With the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card, you can leverage a high-earning rewards program for not only Marriott Bonvoy purchases. Earn 6x points at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. 4x points at U.S. restaurants, at U.S. gas stations, on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers and on U.S. purchases for shipping. 2x points on all other eligible purchases. That’s a pretty enticing offer when compared to some other co-branded rewards cards, particularly for non-branded purchases.

In addition to earning cardholders also can gain access to several other perks including a free night stay (up to 35,000 point value), automatic Silver Elite Status, and point redemption options that include car rental and flights through the Air+Car program.

There are no foreign transaction fees, and while there is an annual fee, it’s low when compared to the rewards program and benefits, especially the annual free night.

Is the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card the best American Express Card for me?

If you are partial to staying at Marriott, SPG, or Ritz Carlton properties, then this card can be a great way to help you earn points for free stays, flights, car rentals and more. You’ll also be able to take advantage of Marriott’s Elite Status, which entitles you to various enhancements and rewards.

However, if you don’t plan to stay at Marriott Bonvoy properties, then this card may not be the best option.  If, for example, you want to capitalize on your travel expenses, like booking flights, you may want to consider one of the American Express Delta business cards.

Alternatively, if you to rack up points for your major business expenses, you may want to consider The Business Platinum® Card from American Express or the American Express® Business Gold Card.

In addition, American Express credit cards suited for a variety of business needs, including The Plum Card® from American Express, which is good for financing expenses, and the American Express® Blue Business Cash Card, which offers straightforward, no-hassle cash back rewards.

Can I still get the 100k Marriott Bonvoy Bonus Rewards

When Amex launched the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card, they did so with a pretty enticing offer: a 100,000 point welcome bonus. However, that promotion is expected to end by April 24, though it’s likely the card will continue to carry some type of welcome offer.

Does the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card have an annual fee?

Like many other Amex rewards cards, the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card does carry an annual fee. If applied for the card before March 28, 2019, you’ll be able to take advantage of a $0 intro annual fee with a $95 fee thereafter. If, however, you applied after that date, you can expect $125 annual fee.

Does the Marriott Business card have foreign transaction fees?

As with many American Express business cards, this Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card does not carry foreign transaction fees.
