Nav's Verdict

Bottom Line A great business card that offers flexible travel rewards points.

American Express offers a variety of credit cards meant to meet the needs of both business owners, but many of them have steep annual fees and strict credit requirements; however, The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express puts the perks of American Express in the hands of business owners who may not have excellent credit or be willing or able to commit to annual fees of $250 or more.

This card also typically carries a good introductory APR offer and can be a good card for financing a purchase over several months. Though if payment flexibility is really what you’re after,  The Plum Card® from American Express should also be on your radar.

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express Review Details

If you’re a small business looking for an easy-to-manage credit card, then this card may be a good option. With no annual fee and an introductory APR offer, this can be a great starter card, especially for business owners who don’t want to deal with the annual fees associated with some of American Express’ other business cards.

Though the card isn’t brimming with huge rewards benefits like some of Amex’s other business credit cards, there are some benefits that make further the value.  For example, the extended buying power as made possible through the no-preset limit feature can give cardholders with positive repayment history more flexibility to make large purchases, including those associated with equipment repairs and replacements.

Further, The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express also comes with a variety of expense management tools, including Account Manager, which allows other trusted individuals access to management functions, and the Spend Manager feature, which allows you to add notes and receipts to your transaction via mobile device or desktop.

However, if you expect to use a credit card to pay for travel expenses, you may want to consider another American Express card, like American Express® Business Gold Card or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, both of which offer more travel benefits and higher points rewards (4X points and 5X points respectively). Similarly, if the bulk of your travel expenses are airfare, and you are loyal to Delta, then one of Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card cards may be a good fit.

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express vs Everyday — What’s the difference?

Though both cards offer users the opportunity to earn up to 2X points on everyday purchases, the American Express Everyday card is a personal credit card, and therefore it won’t provide the same business benefits, and you won’t be able to add employee cards to your account.

Similarly, as a personal credit card, the American Express Everyday won’t help you build your business credit score, something that can impact your ability to obtain affordable financing down the road.  As such, everyday business credit cards like The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express or the  may be better choice.

What is the Foreign Transaction Fee?

Though many American Express business cards offer cardholders fee-free foreign transactions, The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express foreign transaction fee is 2.7% of each transaction after conversion to US dollars.

Is there a 20,000 point offer?

Though this was an active offer in 2018, it’s no longer valid, even though you may still find Amex Blue Business Plus Reddit threads that reference this offer. However, new offers may start at any time, so it’s best to check the Amex site for the most up-to-date offer information.

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express on Reddit – What are people saying?

When American Express launched the new The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express, many business owners were thrilled to find that they could get 2 Membership Rewards points for non-bonus category purchases. This makes it a valuable card for everyday use, particularly if your spending doesn’t fall into the bonus categories associated with other American Express business cards or if you’ve maxed out bonus-category spending limits.

Though Amex Blue Business Plus Reddit comments range from really positive to not so great, typically, many comments are aligned with the following:

“Seriously, 2x MR points on all purchases that are not in a higher bonus category on a different card? Score!!”

~ AntiTrust1

“Wow, this really beats out the Freedom Unlimited on non-bonus spend…”
