Nav's Verdict

Bottom Line A great rewards card for businesses that regularly spend on home improvement.

Business owners who frequently find themselves at their local hardware or home improvement store may want to consider the Lowe's Business Rewards Card from American Express. With this card, you can receive points for shopping at Lowe’s or Lowes.com as well as making purchases at restaurants, office supplies stores, or with wireless phone service providers.

However, if you don’t frequently shop at Lowe’s or you’re looking for a more robust rewards program with flexible redemption options, you may want to consider other American Express Business cards, like the American Express® Business Gold Card, or The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express, each of which offer rewards for everyday business purchases.

Card Review Details

Co-branded credit cards often offer the highest rewards for brand-specific purchases. For example, cards within the Amex Delta business card collection earn the most points when they make purchases directly through Delta. However, that’s not the case with the Lowe's Business Rewards Card from American Express.

Instead, with this card, you’ll earn the maximum 3X points at US restaurants, US office supply stores and on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers, 2X points at Lowe's, 1X points on other purchases.

The Lowe's Business Rewards Card from American Express also has a few notable perks which, combined, can make this a low-risk add to your wallet, even if you’re not using it all the time.

While there are benefits associated with this card, there are a few downsides that you may want to consider before applying. If you’re looking for a rewards program with robust redemption options, then this card may disappoint. For now, points can only be redeemed for gift cards at participating retailers, including Lowe’s.

In addition, depending on your needs and spending patterns, other cards may prove to be just as if not more valuable. For example, if you need to make a large, one-time purchase, you may benefit from the flexible financing associated with The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express, which carries an intro APR of 0% on purchases for 12 months. If you’re looking for maximum points, then the American Express® Blue Business Cash Card could be for you. Earn 2% cash back on all eligible purchases on up to $50,000 per calendar year, then 1%.

That said, if you consistently shop at Lowe’s, then the regular 5% discount can definitely increase the value over time. But it all comes down to how you crunch the numbers.

Before you apply, take inventory of your spending patterns and any specific needs. Then, review some of the other American Express Business credit cards currently on the market to determine which rewards and benefits will be most valuable to you.

Does Lowes Offer Commercial Services?

Lowe’s offers numerous services and financing options for business owners. These services include a 5% discount for Lowe's Business Rewards Card from American Express customers and Lowe’s for select offers on home improvement and building products under the Lowe’s for Pros program.

How can I earn Lowes American Express rewards points?

To earn Lowe’s American Express Rewards points, simply use your card to make business purchases. Though all eligible purchases will earn at least 1 point per dollar, you can take advantage of bonus spend categories as well.

To earn 3 points per dollar, use your card to make purchases at U.S. restaurants as office supplies stores or to pay your monthly wireless telephone bill. You can also earn 2 points per dollar when you use your card at Lowe’s stores and Lowes.com.

Lowe’s Advantage vs Business — What’s the difference?

The primary difference between the Lowe’s Advantage Card and the Lowe’s Business Credit card is that the Advantage card is designed specifically for consumers and can only be used to make purchases at Lowe’s or on Lowes.com. It does, however, allow cardholders access to any special financing offers extended by Lowe’s.

The Lowe’s Business credit card can be used anywhere where American Express is accepted and cardholders can earn rewards points for all purchases. They cannot, however, take advantage of Lowe’s specific special financing promotions.
