How to pick the right credit card for your business

There’s no single credit card out there that’s best for everyone, so it’s important to know yourself and your business to pick the right one. Specifically, here are some factors to consider:

Your credit score

All business credit cards require a personal credit check when you apply, and the best cards are designed for people with good or excellent credit. If your credit isn’t quite there yet, make sure you apply for a card that you have a good chance of getting approved for.

Some business cards report to personal credit as well, here’s a list so you know where to go. You’ll also want to know if the business card you’re after helps your business credit score, which you can check for free with Nav.

Your business expenses

As you’ve probably noticed, some business credit cards offer bonus rewards on certain expenses, allowing you to maximize your rewards. As such, it’s best to find a card with bonus categories that match your typical business expenses.

If you don’t spend a lot in any one category or in general, it may be better to pick a card that offers a high but flat rewards rate on all purchases.

Your preferences

Sometimes, a card’s benefits are what makes it worth getting. So consider if you need a 0% APR promotion, certain business benefits, or travel perks. Take the time to compare these and other business credit cards to ensure that you get the right one for you.

  1. I appreciate you providing these companies that provide business credit cards. So here is my question. Which company offers business credit cards for business credit only, and not personal credit? Because all these companies on this site based there cards on personal credit. I spent time really developing my business credit with D&B credit number and I have over 11 tradelines. But I haven’t seen one company that provides credit card or line of credit based on business credit yet.

      1. What good is business credit when the credit card companies use personal credit. My identity has been stolen twice and have allot of stuff that is on my credit that is supposed to be taken off but I can’t get anything like line of credit, business credit cards etc.. because the score is horrible.

        1. I’m sorry to hear what you’ve been through. There are a variety of business financing sources that don’t base decisions on personal credit, or are flexible with personal credit scores. It’s still very important, and you have more options if you have strong personal and business credit, but it is possible to move away from it as your business grows.
